Ad Buckens is a seasoned cybersecurity advisor with more than 25 years of experience in information security, working extensively with organizations in critical infrastructure. After completing his degree in Administrative Information Science, he began his career at KPMG, then later held combined audit and security roles at the Dutch Ministry of Finance and EY. Since 2017, Ad has been part of CGI, where he advises clients on strengthening their cyber resilience.
Ad’s expertise spans both offensive and defensive security. Early in his career, he conducted security assessments, penetration tests and red team operations. Today, Ad’s focus lies in defensive security—designing programs that help organizations identify threats, manage risks and build resilience across IT and OT domains. He has deep knowledge of risk analysis, compliance and awareness.
Alongside his client work, Ad contributes to education and talent development. He teaches in the Master’s program in Security Management at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences and Cybersecurity at Tilburg University. He serves as a coach in the Hack_Right program of the Dutch National Police, where he guides young cyber offenders in redirecting their skills toward positive and constructive paths.
